[FONT=&quot]1- [/FONT]Guess what the possible essay topics will be. If your teacher spent a lot of time on a particular topic, then he or she probably thinks that the topic is important. That topic might become a potential essay topic.[FONT=&quot][/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]2- [/FONT]Know the characteristics of an effective essay. A good essay is:[FONT=&quot][/FONT]
·[FONT=&quot] Focused. The essay gets straight to the point and utilizes clear arguments. The writing doesn't deviate from the given topic.[/FONT]
·[FONT=&quot] Organized. The most successful writers don't make up the essay as they go along. They consider the structure and the order in which they will present their points before they start to write.[/FONT]
·[FONT=&quot] Supported. Good essays include points that can be supported by facts or by statements within the text that is being analyzed.[/FONT]
·[FONT=&quot] Lucid. Good essays use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.[/FONT]

· [FONT=&quot]Break down the prompt into components. If you are to "identify" something and then "analyze" it, then write 1 paragraph identifying what's requested and a second paragraph analyzing what you identified.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]2- [/FONT]List all of your ideas. Write short sentence fragments or keywords of all of the facts that you can remember. These should be facts that will support the arguments or statements that you will make in your essay.[FONT=&quot][/FONT]
